Characteristics of syphilis

Syphilis is a communicable disease which is caused by a bottle screw-shaped bacterium called Treponema pallidum. This kind of bacteria usually causes infection when it comes in contact with a mucus membranes or broken skin. It is also known as sexually transmitted disease as it commonly transmitted through sexual contact and cause infection in the genitals.
Syphilis is mostly transmitted during oral, vaginal, or anal sex. This infectious disease can also spread from a pregnant woman to her infant. In the initial stages of syphilis, it just looks like rash which is painless. If it is untreated in a proper stage, it spreads on gradually and passes the infection to other organs of the body. This bacterial infection is somewhat danger because it spreads the infection to the central nervous system and it is known as neurosyphilis. Mostly, neurosyphilis shows no symptoms, but it results in personality changes, blindness, dementedness or even death.  Syphilis is believed to be a genital ulcer disease. And it shows very mild symptoms in their starting stage, such as chancres or sores. Even though these initial symptoms are mild they set an easy route of entry for other infections and viruses, such as HIV to enter into your body. So it is very important to treat the syphilis in the beginning stage itself otherwise it may increase the risk of HIV/AIDS.
